“Selah” is one of my first originals co-written with Amber Caparas. My first venture to the world renowned Bluebird Cafe–the perfect combination of pressure and comfortablilty. The knowlege I gained from my first listening room experience will forever influence my approach to song writing. Nothing encompasses personality like listening to various talented artists and their takes on melody, instrumentation, and lyrics. Personally what I’ve learned over the past few weeks is the power of melody and that introducing melody is a form of writing in music. This song ‘Selah’ has been in Amber’s family as an unfinished song. A ‘seed’ of a song. After four days of watering (changing lyrics, re-working the melody and flow of the song, adding a bridge/vamp, etc) This is what it has grown into.
